He served as Vice President of the Laurel Clergy Association. Active in opposing state-sponsored gambling through slot machines, he helped form "Side by Side", a ministry which encouraged Laurel churches to adopt their local public school as an alternative to funding through gambling.
After Katrina ravaged the Gulf states, Laurel, MD adopted Laurel, MS. Firtst Church engaged in it's first mission trip in 2006, sending a team to work with traumatized children. Pastor Dennis rode his bike 1,071 miles from Laurel to Laurel, "Riding the Roofs", to raise 10,000 dollars in funds for home repairs for seniors.
Though the Lord was blessing his ministry in Laurel, he felt called to leave the United Methodist Church to pursue the vision for ministry he received in June 2003 after many months of prayer.
